Dr Erik Nurbek, our very experienced specialist radiologist, uses a high quality ultrasound scanner to provide a service to screen for abnormalities in all areas of the body.

This means that we can offer you the opportunity to have a private ultrasound at reasonable prices. The price of each scan is clearly detailed below but please note that these prices do not include doctors’ consultation fees

ultrasound scanningHow ultrasound works

Ultrasound scans use sound waves to build up a picture of the inside of the body. The ultrasound scanner has a small hand-held transducer (probe), which gives off sound waves. The transducer is passed over your body. The sound waves bounce off the organs inside your body, and are picked up again as they bounce back. The soundwaves are converted into an image on a monitor.

No ionising radiation is used in ultrasound.

At Clinica Tarraula we can undertake the following procedures:

Heart Scan (Echocardiography)
This can detect any abnormalities in the anatomy or function of the heart valves and can assess the size of the heart and the function of the heart muscle. The cost of a Heart Scan (Echocardiography) is: 95,00 €

Three types of Vascular Disease Screening Tests:
1. Arterial Scans of Carotid arteries
This is a procedure that can detect calcium plaques in the carotid arteries in the neck, which can be a risk factor for strokes and dementia.
The cost of a Carotid Arteries Scan is: 85,00 €

2. Aortic aneurysm screening
The aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body and an aneurysm occurs when the wall weakens and a bulge occurs (an aneurysm). This area is weakened and can rupture often resulting in death. Aortic aneurysms are most often caused by atherosclerosis, which is the collection of plaque on the vessel wall and high blood pressure. In most cases there are no symptoms but if found early enough they can usually be treated by surgery.

Approximately 1 in 20 people in the UK (over the age of 65) will develop an aortic aneurysm and it is more common in men than women.

Dr Erik Nurbek will look at the abdominal aorta for evidence of aneurysm. The cost of an Aortic Aneurysm Screening Scan is: 110,00 €

3. Peripheral Artery Disease Scan - Echo Doppler of leg arteries.

This technique is used to detect arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) in the legs and feet and help to plan further treatment. A Doppler exam for Peripheral Artery Disease can quickly determine if there is any impairment in the circulation to the limbs. The examination can identify blockages in the leg arteries and tell how severe the blockage is and whether treatment is needed. The cost of a Doppler of Leg Arteries is: 105,00 €

Abdomen Ultrasound
Our abdominal scan is a detailed examination of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen and kidneys. Dr Nurbeck will also look at the abdominal aorta for evidence of aneurysm. The cost of a Upper Abdomen Ultrasound Scan is: 110,00 €

Renal Tract Ultrasound
A detailed examination of the kidneys and bladder with an assessment of how well the bladder empties after passing water. The cost of a Renal Tract Ultrasound Scan is: 110,00 €

Prostate Scan
This can evaluate the size and consistency of the prostate gland and in combination with the PSA blood test can screen for the likelihood of prostate cancer. The cost of a Prostate Scan is: 110,00 €

Testicular Ultrasound
This examination will screen the testes for any abnormality. Testicular cancer occurs in approximately 1 in 1000 men and is most common in young men between the ages of 16 and 40 but can occur in all age groups. Symptoms are usually a swelling or lump in or on the testicle, which is often painless. Most testicular lumps are not cancerous and simple cysts are fairly common. The cost of a Testicular Ultrasound Scan is: 90,00 €

Female Pelvis
Pelvic Ultrasound. This is a detailed examination of the pelvic organs including the uterus and ovaries. Conditions that can be confirmed by ultrasound include fibroids, ovarian cysts and polycystic ovaries. It is also possible to check the position of a contraceptive coil. The cost of a Pelvic Ultrasound is: 110,00 €

Breast Ultrasound
Breast Ultrasound scanning can help, in combination with mammography, to evaluate breast lumps, particularly to differentiate between solid and cystic tumours. The cost of Breast Ultrasound is: 85,00 €
